  • All present were asked to pour themselves some water into a glass and stand up.  We “cheered” to the fact we have the privilege of fresh, clean water at our finger tips every day.
  
7:06 to 7:15 am            Announcements, For the Good of Rotary
  • Thursday, January 30 was our Games Night at the Sunnybrook Farm Museum site with our host Ian Warwick and over 14 participants.  Scrabble, Sequence, Farkle AND an array of snacks.   All in all it was a fun evening and thanks very much to Ian for hosting this event. 
  • John Dickin was pleased to say that the Fundraising Committee has met and confirmed that our club will embark on planning a Paintscape Evening in Fall 2021 with the goal of supporting a local charity with a goal of $15,000 - $20,000.   Please consider being part of the organizing team and stay tuned for more information.
  • The 8th Annual “Fifty Shades of Service” virtual auction will go live March 25.   Connect with Judy-Ann Wybenga to confirm your item/experience.  www.32auctions.com/50shades2020 to register and review items added to the auction.     
  • Rotary Friendship Exchange is being planned for Brazil in the Fall of 2020.  Dwaine Souveny has graciously accepted the role of “Contact.”  
 
7:15 to 7:25 am   Sergeant at Arms (John Dickin)
  • Guests:   Peter Nunoda (President, RDC), Adriana, Erika (friends of Patricia Arango)
  • Fines:   $3 if you have not registered for the 50 Shades of Support Auction and/or if you did not say a hearty good morning to the Sergeant at Arms when he said good morning to us.  A $10 fine was paid by John as penance for forgetting that he was on Set Up this morning.
  • Thought for the day: “If someone is too tired to give you a smile, leave one of your own because no one needs a smile as much as those who have none to give”.  (Rabbi Samuel Hirsh)   
  • Happy/Sad Buck$ (HB/SB)
    • Meaghan Maskowitz $3   Today is her daughter’s 3rd birthday.  A busy 3 years!!
    • Leslee Burton $2   Really enjoyed the Games Night at Sunnybrook Farm. 
    • Patricia Arango $2   Happy to have 2 friends join her at our meeting this a.m.
    • Helen deBruyckere $3  Spent some time in the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre with her daughter and got to see “Over Capacity Protocol” first hand.  Her conclusion is that Red Deer needs a new hospital. 
    • Dwaine Souveny $2+   Happy to be here this morning!
    • Micheal Varelas $2  He and his wife had a fun time at the Games Night and happy to say he just started a new job at Viva Deli.
    • Frank Bauer $2   Just learned that his Dad’s cousin in Holland is dealing with a cancer diagnosis.  Hard to be so far away in terms of family support.  Feeling blessed to be healthy. 
    • Jan Underwood $2    Happy to have spent time visiting with family in Ontario.   Very happy to be celebrating one year of being cancer free.   
 
7:30 to 7:50   Program
  • Thanks to Frank Bauer for doing an introduction and “bio” of this morning’s guest speaker. 
  • Peter Nunoda gave an action-packed presentation on “Building for the Future of Red Deer University in a Changing World.”  His remarks focused on building a sustainable future and what RDC needs to do as it transitions to RDU.   
  • February 12th meeting:

    • Barrett/Ed/Susan K on set up
    • Books on the Bus donations will be accepted
  • Thanks to all for gift of time and your energy to get our Wednesday off to a great start.
